Reporting to the Powerplant Engineering (PPE) Manager, the Senior Technical Powerplant Engineer I is a key technical contributor responsible for developing, governing, and optimizing the documentation and technical guidance required to support gas turbine engine overhauls across global customer fleets.

In this role, you will provide technical insight into engine maintenance strategies, influence cost-driven decision-making for Fleet Management Program (FMP) MRO contracts, and serve as a technical escalation point for complex overhaul topics—balancing cost efficiency, reliability, and engine safety across the Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine programs.

Essential Functions: 

  • Technical Leadership for Engine Shop Visits – Lead oversight of engine shop visits under FMP, Fixed-Price Agreements, and Maintenance Cost Guarantees, ensure technical and commercial outcomes meet program objectives while upholding flight safety
  • Trusted Engineering Advisor – Provide expert technical recommendations to Fleet Technical Managers, Resident Center Managers, and Powerplant Engineers worldwide; influence workscopes and disposition decisions for best overall lifecycle value
  • Advanced Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis – Support and guide investigations for fleet-wide or engine-specific events, develop data-driven recommendations that improve engine time-on-wing, reliability, and overhaul cost structures
  • Strategic Cost & Technical Decision Support – Drive shop-visit cost analyses and present technical and financial insights to Fleet Managers and Engine Services Finance at Pratt & Whitney (P&W) to inform cost-reduction and maintenance strategy decisions
  • Vendor & Outsource Oversight – Define technical expectations, validate quality of output, and ensure alignment with MTU standards for outsourced workscope execution
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Development – Coach and support early-career Powerplant Engineers; promote best practices, continuous learning, and technical rigor across the team

Requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • 5–12+ years of relevant engineering experience (gas turbine, MRO, or powerplant strongly preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with engine hardware, MRO shop visit activity, fleet management, or maintenance program cost analysis preferred
  • Experience in a customer facing role, handling multiple projects, collaborating with fleet managers and airlines or lessors strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills and customer engagement abilities highly desirable
  • Proven ability to independently lead technical initiatives with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated technical competence in related discipline
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Eligible to work in the United States without Sponsorship
