YOUR TASKS

  • Formative role in the Development and Integration of MTU’s Flying Fuel Cell (FFC) propulsion system; a hydrogen-electric, fuel-cell-based propulsion option for future climate-neutral aircraft
  • Architectural Design of the FFC propulsion system, yielding the globally optimized system architecture, balancing aspects of the electrical, fluidic, mechanical, performance and control domains
  • Collaboration in the frame of the FFC system development within interdisciplinary multi-functional teams
  • Specification of propulsion system requirements including Customer, Certification and Safety Requirements
  • Specification of the associated sub-systems and components in close collaboration with the respective development teams (Fuel Cell System, Electric Propulsion Unit, Electrical Power Distribution, Safety systems, Thermal Management System, Hydrogen Fuel System, Control and Monitoring System, etc.)
  • Support of certification and qualification of the FFC propulsion system including the associated safety analyses
  • Support of verification and validation activities, including full-scale ground- and flight-testing
  • Preparation of the industrialization of the FFC propulsion system
  • Responsibility for securing system weight, performance, and efficiency targets.
  • Support of the technical Project Management and Chief Engineering from the preliminary design phase for new projects up to delivery of the future FFC engine
  • Contribution to the evolutionary improvement of system development processes and tools
  • Collaboration with external industry and research partners in the frame of FFC technology development
  • Coordination of national and European research projects in the context of the FFC 

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree in Aerospace, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a comparable field
  • Experience in the field of Systems Engineering and related topics, such as Architectural Design, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Requirements Based Engineering
  • Experience in the field of Electric Propulsion, ideally related to fuel-cell based propulsion for Aircraft
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Processes, Methods and Standards for System Development, Validation & Verification, Qualification and Certification, e.g. ARP4754, ARP4761, Do178, Do254, Do160
  • Preferably experience in the development and testing of high-voltage systems and networks for the aviation industry
  • Ability to dissect complex interdisciplinary challenges into a practical and tangible course of action
  • Scientific curiosity and creativity combined with an eye for what is feasible and essential when solving complex technical problems
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders
  • Very good knowledge of English
