The Heat Transfer (HT) & Secondary Air Systems (SAS) Integration Engineer II is responsible for the integration of all Heat Transfer and Secondary Air System related topics impacting MTU-owned GTF components; the Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) and the High Pressure Compressor Front Block (HPC). This role works closely with the Thermals and Secondary Air Systems discipline departments at MTU Munich, the corresponding discipline departments at Pratt & Whitney; Systems Integration (EDSI), Aero-Thermal Systems (ATS) and Air Systems (ASDI), as well as GKN. The position functions as a technical focal, coordinating Heat Transfer and Secondary Air System topics that arise during engine development & testing.

The HT/SAS Integration Engineer II works closely with each of MTU AENA’s CIPT’s, supporting all programs. The position has exposure to discipline experts and chief engineers at both MTU and Pratt & Whitney.

Essential Functions Include:

  • Focal for all HT/SAS topics affecting MTU components. 
  • Re-establish and maintain the HT/SAS discipline engineering network between PW and MTU
  • Drive communication and integration between MTU, PW and GKN’s HT/SAS disciplines to solve cross-component issues.
    • Align HT/SAS tasks and boundary conditions. 
    • Facilitate weekly meetings and annual summits, driving closure of action items. 
    • Drive alignment of HT/SAS processes between P&W and MTU Munich
    • Create, review and update functional interface documents (CICR)
  • Support all required certification and post-certification activities needing HT/SAS input.
  • Provide on-site testing support: data & instrumentation verification to ensure test objectives will be met
  • Support SIPT Meetings, as appropriate, as the local HT/SAS discipline representative
  • Provide back-up support to AENA’s other aero-thermal tasks (e.g. performance integration, thermals analysis), as needed
  • Work with Pratt & Whitney and MTU Munich colleagues on a regular basis, involving cultural intelligence and further strengthening of the P&W/MTU partnership
  • Maximize in-person meeting opportunities with counterparts.  Frequent onsite presence is expected.

  • Bachelor’s Degree.  Master’s Degree (preferred) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Heat transfer.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with commercial engines
  • Occasional travel may be required; domestic and international
  • Non-standard hours may be required during engine testing
  • Eligible to work in the United States without Sponsorship
