Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist â€‹

Job Summary:
The EHS Specialist will report to the Quality Director. In this role, they will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, developing and implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, providing training, and investigating incidents to maintain a safe and healthy workplace and environment.

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  •  Stay up to date with and ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental, health, safety and fire regulations and standards.
  • Create and implement EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, incidents, training, and other EHS-related activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies and provide necessary documentation.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement emergency response plans. 
  • Conduct training programs for employees on EHS policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Support MTU operations and staff to ensure compliance and a safe working environment. 
  • Support the development and implementation of MTU quality management in the context of external and internal requirements. 
  • Participate in MTU Dallas internal and external projects, working groups and committees.
  • Development of detailed process key figures and indicators for evaluation and improvement of processes.
  • Perform other duties as may be directed by the Quality Director.

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field from an accredited institution. 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience 
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations at local, state and national levels. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills in working and communicating effectively with all levels in the organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving mindset and a proactive, creative approach to challenges.
  • Profound ability to analyze and assess risk.
  • Independent execution of projects in the subject area
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, relevant web applications.
  • Must be trained in First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write legibly and understand the English language.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
